Come and explore the wonderful rich world of Yiddish Song, in the language of the Jews of Eastern Europe. There are such a great variety of songs; poignant folk songs, songs of love, suffering and defiance, theatre, swing and art songs.
In this workshop we will learn a few songs from this huge range. Phil Tomlinson is a very experienced singer and performer who will share his love of these songs, and enfold you in his enthusiasm. Phil is based in Derbyshire and has in recent years performed and taught in Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Derby, Leeds, Edinburgh and Liverpool. He has also appeared on local radio. He is the song leader for the annual KlezNorth festival in Derbyshire (http://kleznorth.org.uk/) and is a member of the klezmer band The Klatsh, playing guitar and mandolin, as well as singing.
