Manchester Klezmer Day

There’s still time to come to Manchester Klezmer Day this weekend. With a music session in the basement at Mono in Chorlton on Friday night and then it’s over to St Matthew’s in Stretford on Saturday 19 Sept for a day of workshops for musicians and then a fantastic Klezmer Keilidh in the evening.

Susi Evans (clarinet), Josie Wexler (fiddle), Frances O’Rourke (piano accordion) and Judith Plowman (dance leader) are looking forward to welcoming you all.

Balkan Music and Dance in Lancaster

Folk to Folk presents a Balkan music concert and dance, featuring Susi Evans, Zivorad Nikolic and Oliver Baldwin from She’Koyokh at the Gregson Centre, 33 Moorgate, Moor Lane, Lancaster LA1 3PY on 16 May 2015.

During the day there will be instrumental workshops on clarinet and accordion (other instruments welcome), upstairs in The Gregson, from 11am until 1pm and an ensemble music workshop from 2-5.30pm. The workshops cost £5 each.

In the evening there will be an introductory Balkan dance workshop at 7pm, with a concert/dance starting at 8pm. Price £8/6 including workshop.

KlezFest is Back!

The Jewish Music Institute in London have undergone a number of organisational changes in recent years and have decided by popular demand to bring back KlezFest.

This is what you can expect:

• Lectures from the cutting edge of academic research
• Traditional klezmer; history, melodies, ornamentation, dance and accompaniment
• Play music in ensembles and delve into improvisational techniques
• Interpret scores, jam and perform to the public.

The international faculty will feature some of the very best klezmer musicians from around the world:
Dr Alan Bern (piano/accordion – Germany)
Ilana Cravitz (violin – UK)
Joel Rubin (clarinet – USA)

Klezmer Weekend in Youlgrave, Derbyshire, 29-31 August 2014

London Klezmer Quartet are hosting a weekend of workshops, sessions and concerts, for all musicians interested in developing skills & learning more about the wonderful world of Klezmer. Intermediate musicians from all musical backgrounds welcome for music, and possibly even a spot of dancing, in the picturesque Peak District area of Youlgrave, Derbyshire.
Arrival Friday evening or Saturday morning, finishing early Sunday afternoon.
