The Balkanics are a seven-piece Lancastrian band featuring fiddles, bouzouki, whistles, accordion, cello, percussion, guitar and trombone. They take traditional Eastern European and Klezmer tunes, add some secret special ingredients, and come up with a big-band sound that is their own. Expect driving dance rhythms and melancholic interludes. We’ll bring our unique blend of Balkan and Klezmer tunes and hope to turn the Robert Gillow crowd into a seething, grinning throng attempting to pogo in 11/8.
The Balkanic strings will be playing the ultimate rock n roll venue – Waterstones Book Shop, as part of the Lancaster Music Festival, following on from the excellent Avital Raz. As Joe famously said at our Holmfirth supermarket car park lunchtime gig last year, “my mum would be so proud if she knew that I was playing here.”
