Klezmer Events in Manchester

The next pub session at The Ducie Arms will be on Monday 8 February at 8pm. The address is 52 Devas St, M15 6HS. There will be a slow session to begin with and the main session will be at 8.45pm. All welcome.

The Manchester University Klezmer Ensemble, AKA The Michael Kahan Kapeleye are hosting a night of Klezmer at The Zombie Shack, 50 New Wakefield St, Manchester, M1 5NP. The event takes place on 10 March at 8pm and will feature MKK plus Dos Lebn lz A Shpas and Ibbergerbibbernis. This is in preparation for their assessed concert at the University. Come along and show your support. Tickets £3 advance or £4 on the door. Advance tickets are available from band members or the SU helpdesk.


Manchester Klezmer Day

There’s still time to come to Manchester Klezmer Day this weekend. With a music session in the basement at Mono in Chorlton on Friday night and then it’s over to St Matthew’s in Stretford on Saturday 19 Sept for a day of workshops for musicians and then a fantastic Klezmer Keilidh in the evening.

Susi Evans (clarinet), Josie Wexler (fiddle), Frances O’Rourke (piano accordion) and Judith Plowman (dance leader) are looking forward to welcoming you all.



Yiddlesticks at Mono


Paul and Frances from Yiddlesticks Klezmer Band will be performing at Mono in Chorlton as part of Chorlton Arts Festival on Saturday 23 May. Mono is opposite Morrison’s and the address is 535 Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, South Manchester, M21 0UE.

Klezmer Lunchtime Concert

The Michael Kahan Kapelye (aka The Manchester University Klezmer Ensemble) assessed lunchtime concert takes place on Thursday 30 April at 13.10 until 13.50. This concert is free and open to the public so come along and support the students. It’s at the Martin Harris Centre, which is behind the Manchester Museum. The address is Bridgeford Street, off Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9PL.

She’Koyokh at Band on the Wall, Manchester

The award winning Balkan and Klezmer band She’Koyokh are making a rare trip up north from London to play at Band on the Wall on 23rd October 2014. This is a concert not to be missed.

7th *‘Michael Kahan Music Day’* – 1st June, The Carlton Club – Manchester

Dear all

It’ll be 6 years since Michael died and it still means as much as on
the first day to know that so many other people remember and miss him.
It’s especially nice to see that it has grown over the years and so
many people who didn’t know Michael enjoy this event too!

The *‘Michael Kahan Music Day’* is a day to get together in a very
informal environment, make and enjoy music and remember Michael. It is
also an opportunity for me to thank you all for the support that I
have received from all the wonderful people who helped to keep the
‘Michael Kahan Music Day’ going.
