Ellie from L’chaim Kapelye has made a film about Klezmer in Manchester.
Hosted by L’chaim Kapelye. Monday 28 September 2015 at 8pm.
Calling all klezmer enthusiasts! Whether you are an experienced klezmorim, a beginner klezmorim, a dabbler in folk/gypsy/balkan music, or simply intrigued as to what is klezmer, then this session at The Ducie Arms is for you.
This is the first klezmer session ever to be held at this location, and our aim is to get a monthly jam going so that more people can enjoy the Eastern European Yiddish tradition. It will be a very informal session and anyone is welcome. All you need to do is bring your selves, your voice and/or instrument, and a bit of ££ to buy some drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) to keep you going.
The session will begin around 8pm, but if you need to arrive later, then that is not a problem. If you are a UoM muso are worried about instruments we can also let you back into the MHC with our powers of 24hr postgrad access!
Spread the word by passing this on to anyone who you think may enjoy exploring the klezmer tradition! Any questions, please do not hesitate to message L’chaim Kapelye!
A weekend of Klezmer in the Peak District.
11th-13th March 2016
KlezNorth 2015 was another resounding success with Deborah Strauss as Musical Director sharing her wisdom and vast experience. We were also delighted to have the wonderful French band Freylekhs Brider who led instrumental, dance and Yiddish song workshops. Photographs from the weekend are in the Gallery.
L’chaim Kapelye have recorded an EP which is available to purchase electronically from bandcamp:
L’chaim Kapelye is a 7-piece ensemble based in Manchester, who specialise in music from the Klezmer and Balkan tradition. They started out as music students at the University of Manchester who undertook playing in the university klezmer ensemble, The Michael Kahan Kapelye, under the supervision of Richard Fay and Ros Hawley.
