Irish Folk & Klezmer with Michael McGoldrick

Irish meets Jewish (amid the mirk over the Irk). Musicians well-known on the Irish traditional music scene; Mike McGoldrick, Dezi Donnelly and Ange Durcan will collaborate with recent graduates L’chaim Kapelye to explore the music of the Jewish and Irish communities.

Klezmer at Manchester Jewish Museum

We are thrilled to announce we will be hosting an evening of klezmer music on Sunday 7th December.

The concert will feature a veritable feast of musicians including L’Chaim Kapelye, the Fermishte Klezmer Band, the Michael Kahan Kapelye and the Hard Times Kapelye.

The performance will raise funds for the Museum and for the continued development of Jewish music at the university.

“The musicians will then take you on a musical journey through the exhibition, using a section of artworks along the way to perform and create music that tells the stories portrayed in the pictures. Animals, characters and street scenes will be brought to life through storytelling soundscapes created with the musicians. A family friendly workshop featuring live music, creative activities storytelling; come along and learn about klezmer, Chagall and his contemporaries and have some fun!”

Gathering of the Klezmorim for Channukah – Dec 12 at Manchester Jewish Museum

As part of our Chanukah celebrations we are delighted to present an evening of Klezmer music. Students of the Music Department of Manchester University make up the talented musicians in the “Michael Kahan Kapalye” and “The Manchester Simcha Quartet

As the nights get darker and colder join us for an evening of music that is sure to brighten your mood and put a spring back in your step.

Michael Kahan Kapalye is an ensemble named after Michael Kahan, a Manchester-based klezmer musician who was tragically killed a few years ago in random street attack.

The Manchester Simcha Band, perform traditional Klezmer with a twist . Steeped in tradition whilst making room for interests in improvisation, composition and jazz, the band’s performances have gained popularity throughout the northwest.
